Neither sweat nor dew

 

At times the grass is wet with dew,

At times the grass is wet with sweat,

Who dances on that grassy patch?

What collects at her pretty feet?

Is it sweat, or is it dew?

That patch's owner murmurs thus:

At dawn it must be dew,

Honest sweat at noon is due,

At dusk the grass withers and bends,

'Tis neither sweat nor dew.
